Hearts for Homes Announces New Board Member and $30,000 Grant Award
Denton, TX – Hearts for Homes, a nonprofit serving Denton County, proudly announces the addition of Janet Shelton, CPA and controller for Southern Stretch Forming, to serve on the Board of Directors. Shelton was elected at a recent Hearts for Homes Board retreat to take the Board Treasurer position replacing former board member, Wade Moran, CPA. Moran has been with Hearts for Homes since its inception in 2006 and chose to roll off of this post after moving to Ovilla, Texas. Shelton has served on various nonprofit boards and advisory boards in the Denton community and is a valued addition to Hearts for Homes.
“Board membership is an effective way to stay on top of what is being done in our community and to help support the activities that add to our quality of life in Denton,” explains Shelton.
Hearts for Homes Founder and Executive Director Susan Frank is excited to unveil the nonprofit’s new mission and vision following the recent board retreat. Hearts for Homes is a nonprofit Christian outreach providing hope and dignity through home rehabilitation affording low-income seniors a safe, comfortable and well-functioning home. It’s mission is to improve living conditions of low-income senior homeowners in Denton County.
“We are so excited by all the wonderful progress Hearts for Homes is making and enthusiasm to serve shown by our board, advisory committee and the many volunteers it takes to meet the needs of our senior homeowners,” shares Frank.
This week, Hearts for Homes was honored to receive a grant award for $30,000 from the Dallas Women’s Foundation to support the organization’s efforts to build capacity in order to sustain its work well into the future. The nonprofit has been in operation since 2006 repairing homes of very low-income senior homeowners who barely have enough monthly income to pay for food and medicines let alone home repairs. Some of the conditions these seniors end up living in are simply deplorable and unsafe. Hearts for Homes partners with area businesses, engages many volunteers, both skilled and unskilled, and depends on the generous contributions from a variety of donors to afford these seniors a safe, comfortable living environment to live out their latter years at home.
